“Our team at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant informed me this morning that the plant has lost all of its external power for the 2nd time in five days,” Rafael Grossi, head of the IAEA, said in a Twitter post on Oct. 12.
“ZNPP’s backup diesel generators are now providing power for its nuclear safety and security functions”, he added.
“This repeated loss of ZNPP’s off-site power is a deeply worrying development and it underlines the urgent need for a nuclear safety & security protection zone around the site”, Grossi said.
Due to yet another shelling by Russian troops on Oct. 8, the last power line to the ZNPP was damaged.
Ukrainian engineers repaired the 750 kV high-voltage line and put it back into online on Oct. 9.
