Russia has put almost all of its military resources into its attempt to destroy Ukraine, while the people of the aggressor country face even greater impoverishment than in the 1990s, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address late on May 21.

"Russia has sent almost all its resources to destroy us," the president said.

"Russia's regions openly say their so-called 'special operation' is the cause of economic decline, including industries such as construction and many others. And also the cause of impoverishment that may be even greater than in the 1990s."

Zelensky added that rising prices, devaluation of incomes and the destruction of "all the economic potential created in Russia since the 2000s" have not yet stopped the Russian invaders.

"But the enormous costs of the war still don't help them. And they won't help," he said.

The Ukrainian president also called on every Ukrainian to look for ways every day to help the defense and the army.

"Unfortunately, the war is not over. We still have to fight and move forward to victory," Zelensky said.

"It may seem to some people in some cities in the rear that the war can be forgotten and it's possible to become carefree or even careless, but it's not like that. Ukrainians are dying every day for our independence. Every day, each of us must look for ways to help the defense, to help the army with what is possible and how it is possible."

According to Ukraine's General Staff, Russia has lost 28,850 personnel, 1,278 tanks, 204 aircraft, 169 helicopters, 596 artillery systems, 13 ships and boats, and other equipment since the beginning of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24.
