Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda have agreed a massive new package of military aid for Ukraine, the Ukrainian leader said during a joint press-conference in Warsaw on April 5.

Zelenskyy was on his first official visit to Poland since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022.

“We discussed the strengthening of our army. This is very important. Today we discussed and made a decision on a powerful defense package that will strengthen our people," Zelenskyy said.

He thanked Poland for a new aid package, and said Ukraine’s defenders were also defending the rest of Europe.

"Today we are here in Warsaw, but there – in the trenches of Bakhmut, Mariyinka, Avdiyivka – are our people, real warriors, men and women, absolutely strong people whom we, unfortunately, lose every day because of Russia... They risk their lives not only for the sake of Ukrainians, but also for the sake of the future lives of your children, the children of Europe."

Duda confirmed that Ukraine and Poland are working together on a new wide agreement between the countries and expressed the hope that it would be signed soon. Ukrainians and Polish people should not feel that there is "a border between us," he said.

"It will be a political and geographical border, but we would like to have two countries cooperating, like a brotherly community of two neighboring peoples who love each other," Duda said.

The Polish president expects even more economic cooperation between the two countries after the Russian invasion forces are pushed out of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy was visiting Poland on the invitation of the President of Poland Duda. It has been his third trip abroad since Russia's full-scale invasion, and the first official visit he has made together with First Lady Olena Zelenska.
