The international community should unite in pursuing a just peace settlement of the Russo-Ukrainian war instead of attempting to make a backroom deal with Moscow, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his address at the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept. 19.

Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian peace formula has already become the foundation for amending the existing global security architecture, which has received support from more than 140 countries and international organizations.

On Sept. 20, Zelenskyy will present Ukraine’s proposals at a special UN Security Council meeting on how to "restore the functioning of the UN Charter and guarantee the full force of a rules-based world order."

The president added that for the first time in recent decades, the world has a chance to stop an armed aggression on the victim’s terms. He urged UN members to jointly prepare a global peace summit.

“I am aware of attempts to make some backroom deals behind the scenes,” said Zelenskyy.

“You can't trust evil. Ask [Yevgeny] Prigozhin if it's worth trusting [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin's promises. Please, listen to me. Let unity decide everything openly.”
