Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has introduced the newly appointed Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, and the new head of Ukraine’s SBU security service, Vasyl Malyuk, to the departments’ teams, the president’s press service reported on Feb. 13.
“The main tasks are trust and respect,” the president said, while introducing Klymenko to the department.
“So that Ukrainian children trust Ukrainian police officers and want to become police officers, national guards, rescuers, and border guards themselves. So that our citizens respect the Interior Ministry. And so that the Offensive Guard, which is currently being formed, becomes a strong element of our Defense and Security Forces.”

In turn, Klymenko thanked the president for his trust and noted that he is aware of his personal responsibility for maintaining stability and control over the Interior Ministry in this extremely difficult period of full-scale war for Ukraine.
He said that strengthening the combat capabilities of the National Guard, the National Police, and the State Border Guard Service was a priority.
"We’re already forming the Offensive Guard and need to not only recruit volunteers, but also train them in a short period of time,” he said.
“We need to form true combat units that will strengthen the security and defense forces of our country.”
Meanwhile, while introducing SBU chief Malyuk, Zelenskyy noted his professionalism and patriotism.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Vasyl Malyuk has proved that he is a patriot, a professional, and exactly the right person to lead the security service of our country,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the Ukrainian president, the SBU is changing dynamically and fundamentally, becoming a powerful and modern service.
“The enemy knows that these professional people will not give them a single chance” he said.
“That is why they are very afraid of you. The key thing is to maintain all this, and not to lose before the end of the war and after our victory.”
Zelenskyy also urged SBU agents to continue working to find and detain collaborators.
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, appointed Malyuk as the SBU chief, and Klymenko as the Interior Minister, on Feb. 7.
