Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Armin Papperger, CEO of German defense contractor Rheinmetall AG, Zelenskyy’s office reported on March 30. Papperger leads a delegation of several Rheinmetall executives on a Kyiv trip.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for close partnership in order to both meet Ukraine’s urgent defense needs and to bolster the country’s long-term national security.

Zelenskyy also thanked the representatives of Rheinmetall and the German people for their comprehensive assistance and support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

“We appreciate this important assistance in our struggle for freedom and democratic values,” the president said.

On March 4, German newspaper Der Spiegel wrote that Rheinmetall is negotiating a deal with Kyiv to build a tank factory somewhere in Ukraine.
