Individuals and companies in Russia that help the Kremlin wage its war of aggression in Ukraine by transporting Russian soldiers and equipment by rail face a new wave of sanctions from Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (RNBO) imposing sanctions on individuals and logistics companies. The presidential decree, which included a list of 185 names of sanctioned entities, was published on Jan. 28.

"(These individuals’ and companies’) assets in Ukraine will be seized and used to help us in our defence," Zelenskyy said during his evening address to the nation on Jan. 28, announcing the imposition of the sanctions.

He added that the Ukrainian government would be working to ensure other countries impose similar sanctions on Russia.

"I'm grateful to everyone who helps us to strengthen sanctions against Russia,” Zelesnkyy said.

“I'm also grateful to (those who) investigate the ways the terrorist state (Russia) uses to circumvent sanctions," he added.
