Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree suspending the citizenship of 13 priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, or UOC-MP, news portal LB.ua reported on Jan. 7, citing its sources.

According to the publication, decree No. 898/2022 was signed by the president on Dec. 28, 2022. The decree was not, however, made public officially, as it contains personal information.

But according to LB.ua sources, it concerns the suspension of the citizenship of 13 representatives of six dioceses of the UOC-MP — Donetsk, Crimea, Dnipro, Romen, Odesa and Bukovyna.

The full list of persons included in the presidential decree is as follows:

  • Anatoliy Ivanovych Yeletskikh – Metropolitan Ionafan of Tulchyn and Bratslav, who was charged with treason by Ukraine’s SBU security service.
  • Serhiy Leonidovych Anitsoi – Vicar of the Tulchyn Diocese, Bishop Serhiy Ladyzhynskyy, to whom, according to LB.ua, all of Ionafan’s property is registered.
  • Volodymyr Semenovych Vinichenko – Archbishop Varsonofiy of Novoazovsk (Donetsk Diocese).
  • Viktor Anatoliyovych Gradomskyy – Archpriest Victor, abbot of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Odesa Diocese).
  • Mykola Mykolayovych Donyenko – Vicar Hierarch, Bishop Nestor of Yalta (after the UOC-MP Council of May 27, all Crimean parishes of this religious organization expressed disagreement with his decisions and asked the Synodof the Russian Orthodox Church to accept them under direct authority).
  • Valentyn Volodymyrovych Yehorenko – Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, whose property was searched by the SBU, who found Russian passports of the “management of diocesan structures”, including his own. There was also a report about the discovery of child pornography in diocesan computers, which is currently being studied by the investigation.
  • Oleksiy Oleksandrovich Maslennikov – Metropolitan Iosyf of Romen and Buryn (Romen Diocese). The Romen Diocese also decided to remain under the omophorion of the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill Gundyaev and stopped commemoration of Metropolitan Onufriy.
  • Ivan Petrovych Seredniy – Metropolitan of Dnipro and Pavlograd.
  • Andriy Petrovych Skobiola – Archbishop of Volnovakha, vicar of the Donetsk diocese, abbot of the Sviatovasilivsky monastery.
  • Oleksandr Borysovych Taranov – Archbishop Arkadiy of Rovenkiv and Sverdlovsk, who collaborated with the invaders and then fled to Russia.
  • Rostyslav Pylypovych Shvets – Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopil and Crimea.
  • Viktor Serhiyovych Shynkaryov – Archbishop Paisiy of Konstantinov. According to the media, he took an active part in the activities of the terrorist organization “DNR”.
  • Ihor Fedorovych Yakovenko – Metropolitan of Sviatohirskyy, Vicar of the Donetsk Diocese, Vicar of the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra.

According to the publication, the State Migration Service has also received corresponding notification about the invalidation of the Ukrainian citizenship of the specified persons. According to the current rules, the persons included in the list may be deported.

Also, according to LB.ua, the possibility of suspending the citizenship of six other people is currently being studied.
