Chris Hennemeyer

Christian Hennemeyer has spent over four decades living and working in the developing world, from his childhood as an “embassy brat” in Tanzania to a Peace Corps stint in Ghana to many years carrying out NGO relief and development programs in Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the Balkans. Assignments have taken him to a variety of messy places, including the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Sierra Leone during their respective civil wars, and he was one of the only Americans on the ground in Rwanda during the genocide.  

Despite having officially retired, Chris traveled to Ukraine in January 2023 and has since spent seven months volunteering for local humanitarian groups providing assistance to civilians displaced by the Russian aggression. He also raises funds for Ukrainian troops through his charity http://www.inthetrenchesukraine.org. Chris periodically writes and comments on international issues for various media outlets, including the Washington Post, New York Times, BBC, VOA and others.  He speaks fluent French and poor German, but sadly very little Ukrainian.
