A year after Russia launched its full scale invasion of Ukraine, the media are awash with war analysis articles and opinions.
In mid-2014, a few months after Russia had invaded Crimea and begun its military occupation of the Ukrainian peninsula, I was surprised to hear some Ukrainians voice the opinion that Kyiv should never seek to regain control of the stolen territory.
The Drama Theater in Mariupol had the word “children” written in Russian in clear white letters – so clear satellites could see them from space.
By building up a very realistic looking invasion force on Ukraine’s borders, the Kremlin is looking to scare the West into forcing Kyiv to make concessions on the Minsk peace process – and ultimately on Ukraine's existence as a state.
