Luhansk-born, internationally acclaimed Ukrainian novelist, poet, and translator, the author of 12 books of poetry and seven novels, and the winner of a number of literary awards.

Born in the city of Starobelsk, Luhansk region, in a Ukrainian-speaking family. Received a pedagogical education at the Faculty of Ukrainian-German Philology at the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University of G.S. Skovoroda.
Author of popular novels Boarding School, Lugansk, Mesopotamia, Capital, collections The Templars, The Life of Mary, Gunshots and knives and many others. He received many awards for his work, including the William Tell Award (2019), the Vasily Stus Prize, and the BBC Book of the Year honor.
