Tomio Okamura, leader of the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, has been elected speaker of the Czech Republic’s Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, Czech outlet Novinky reported on Nov. 5.

Czech elections test country’s pro-EU, pro-Ukraine stance

Czech parliamentary elections are being held over two days, with polling stations open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time on Oct. 3 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 4. The first results are expected on Saturday evening, Oct. 4.
