On this day in 1945: Hitler dies by suicide in underground bunker
Eighty years ago, on April 30, 1945, Adolf Hitler — one of the most brutal dictators and tyrants in modern history — took his own life in a bunker beneath central Berlin. The man who started World War II at age 50, bringing about the deaths of tens of millions, died by suicide at 56 as Nazi Germany collapsed around him.
