EU Commission proposes doubling steel import tariffs to 50%, sparing Ukraine's quota share
The European Commission unveiled a proposal to slash duty-free steel import quotas into the EU by 47% to 18.3 million tons annually and double out-of-quota tariffs to 50%, aiming to shield the bloc's steelmakers from global overcapacity, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in a news release on Oct. 7.
