war against Ukraine. That day was meant to launch a 30-day
ceasefire proposed by Kyiv and its allies — a plan the Kremlin effectively
rejected. Instead, direct talks between Russia and Ukraine, initiated by Moscow
and backed by Donald Trump, may take place in Istanbul on May 15. Ukrainian
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has personally invited Vladimir Putin to attend.
