Russian port strikes drive Ukrainian grain logistics costs up $50 per metric ton

USDA slashes Ukraine grain export forecasts amid attacks

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has lowered its forecast for Ukrainian wheat exports in the 2026/27 marketing year (July-June) to 10.8 million tons, down from a previous estimate of 14.5 million tons, and cut its corn export forecast to 14 million tons from 23 million tons, according to USDA's quarterly report released on Aug. 5.

Ukraine eyes Moldova rail route for grain exports

Ukraine is exploring the possibility of transporting grain by rail through Moldova as a safer export option than shipping by sea, and has asked authorities in Chisinau for a reduced cargo transit tariff, Reuters reported on Aug. 10, citing sources in both countries.

Türkiye, Spain top buyers as Ukraine's grain exports shrink

Ukraine slashed exports of grain and oilseed crops by 19% in the 2024–2025 marketing year, falling from 57.5 million to 46.7 million metric tons, the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) reported on July 21.
