Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has added Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to its list of restricted countries, barring their residents from using its services, The Insider reported on Oct. 19.

Strict account closure requirements have been introduced for customers from these countries:

  • As of Oct. 18, users are prohibited from opening new trades, placing orders or purchasing subscriptions.

  • By Oct. 21, they must close all positions and withdraw their assets.

  • After Oct. 21, all remaining positions will be closed automatically, and access to accounts will be restricted.

The updated agreement strictly prohibits the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) to circumvent the restrictions.

The platform also reserves the right to close positions at its discretion, restrict withdrawals and forcibly convert users' assets into other cryptocurrencies.

The restrictions were introduced three weeks after a major cyberattack on the platform.

In late September, hackers stole $351.6 million worth of cryptocurrency from the platform, making it the largest theft in the sector since the beginning of 2026.

The exact number of customers who will be blocked has not yet been disclosed. Users are being notified about withdrawal procedures by email and through the mobile app.

Earlier reports indicated that more than $13 million had been stolen from a Russia-linked cryptocurrency exchange.
