Each tank will hold 240,000 cubic meters. Once completed, they will be the world’s largest onshore LNG storage tanks using GTT’s GST full-containment membrane technology, the press release said.
China Chengda Engineering Co. Ltd. placed the order. The tanks will be built for state-controlled operator PipeChina at the Yuedong terminal in Jieyang, Guangdong province. Construction began in December 2025 and the project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2028, according to Interesting Engineering.
On June 22, Reuters reported that China is preparing another LNG terminal to accept sanctioned shipments from Russia.
