Ukraine’s largest privately-owned power utility company DTEK
is using largely its own funds to repair its thermal power plants (TPPs), most
of which were damaged by Russian attacks, DTEK CEO Dmytro Sakharuk said on
Sept. 17.
“This is very costly — UAH 4 billion [$96 million] just to recover lost capacity,” Sakharuk said at a press briefing.
He explained that while Ukraine’s foreign partners are providing financial and technical assistance, and their help is crucial for the restoration of the energy infrastructure, it is a lengthy process.
The CEO added that when it comes to conducting maintenance ahead of the coming winter season, DTEK is relying solely on its own resources.
“If we talk about how we will get through the next winter, we will rely on our own equipment and our own money,” Sakharuk stated.
