The European Union has sanctioned several key figures in the Russian energy sector, including Mykola Tkachenko, CEO of construction contractor Gazstroyprom JSC; Yury Shamalov, CEO of Gazprom subsidiary Gazprom Flot LLC; Ivan Kozhevnikov, CEO of Gazprom LNG Technologies LLC; and Oleksiy Kakhidze, chairman of Gazprom LNG Technologies.
The sanctions target these individuals due to their ties to the energy sector, a significant revenue source for Russia’s budget.
Additionally, sanctions were imposed on oil trader Niels Trost of the Netherlands and his company Paramount Energy & Commodities DMCC, linked to Russian oil trade above the price cap, as well as Investnaftotrade LLC, Prime Shipping LLC and its chairman Igor Ganin, and Rosnefteflot CEO Alexey Nefedov.
In a related development, Gazprom has sued Polish gas companies and Austrian firm OMV, which previously planned to buy Russian gas until 2040.
However, OMV Gas Marketing & Trading GmbH terminated its long-term contract with Gazprom Export on December 12, 2024, ending a deal that had been in place since 2006.
