U.S. electronics plant in Zakarpattia plans to resume work after Russian missile strike damage

“Now, with courage and unity, the Flex team is working together in temporary facilities to bring the company back, like a phoenix from the ashes, repairing damage, restoring operations, and ensuring jobs for 2,600 Mukachevo employees,” Hunder said.

He noted that just minutes before two missiles struck the plant, 600 night-shift employees had safely moved into bomb shelters.

“Russia is not only destroying Ukraine, it is destroying and humiliating American business. The region borders the EU and was considered the safest in Ukraine. That is no longer the case,” Hunder said. “We call on President Trump to support American business and resist Vladimir Putin’s campaign of destruction.”

U.S.-based Flex said it has activated a business continuity plan to ensure ongoing operations and is currently assessing the extent of damage to its Mukachevo plant.

“Our facility in Mukachevo specializes in consumer and household products and has never had any role, past or present, in military or defense production. While the incident is of great significance to our Flex teammates, the facility represents approximately 1% of Flex’s revenue,” the company said.

As reported, firefighting efforts continue at the plant in Mukachevo following the Russian mass strike overnight on Aug. 21, the State Emergency Service said on Aug. 22.

In his evening video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russians deliberately launched the missile strike on the American company’s plant in Mukachevo on the night of Aug. 21 — thereby targeting U.S. investments in Ukraine.

Flex has operated in Ukraine since 2000, initially in partnership with a radio plant in Berehove. In 2012, the company built an electronics manufacturing plant in Mukachevo, and in 2018, it launched a new plastic molding facility there.

The Mukachevo Flex plant produces consumer electronics, including fitness trackers, coffee machines, and automotive components. Its products are manufactured for companies such as Nike, Lenovo, Philips, and Nespresso.

Founded in 1969, Flex is one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers, employing 172,000 people and operating more than 100 production sites in 30 countries.
