Vodafone experiences unprecedented surge in subscribers after Kyivstar cyberattack

Vodafone has witnessed an unprecedented surge in new subscribers after the massive Dec. 13 cyberattack on Kyivstar, prompting concerns about the company's ability to handle the increased demand.

The questions on everyone's mind: Can the company handle the increased demand, ow many new subscribers has Vodafone gained since the cyberattack, and are they currently grappling with any operational issues?

The demand for Vodafone's starter packages has reached extraordinary levels, and the company is quick to assure its customers that they have the necessary capacity to address this surge effectively.

While speaking about the availability of starter packages, "In several stores, the status 'available/not available' changes several times a day," Vodafone’s press service told NV.

Vodafone is mobilizing additional resources to ensure prompt delivery of new starter packages to stores across various regions. Adjustments to logistical routes have been made to expedite the delivery process.

While the number of new connections remains undisclosed, Vodafone acknowledges a substantial increase and affirms that core services within their network are functioning with minimal limitations.

Vodafone admits, however, that the network is operating under "abnormally high load."

"During yesterday and today, the network has received millions of new subscribers who are activating new or renewing their old SIM cards," the press service confirmed to NV.

This influx has led to a significant surge in load on various Vodafone service channels, including stores, the website, the online store, the contact center, the self-service application, and the billing system. The simultaneous doubling of loads has delayed activating service packages for some clients.

The spike in network load can be attributed to new subscribers, with many clients opting for the mobile network over Kyivstar's home internet, which experienced disruptions yesterday, according to Vodafone's press service.

This localized impact may affect the speed of services and online video quality for some users.
