The company did not provide reasons for shutting down the facilities.
In December of last year, branches in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, and Samara were closed.
In January 2025, the company also scaled back operations in Moscow, Vladivostok, Voronezh, Krasnoyarsk, and Yaroslavl.
Microsoft shut down its central office in Moscow in the summer of 2022, ceasing all operations in Russia after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in March 2022.
In September, Microsoft began disabling subscriptions to its cloud services for Russian companies, including M365, O365, EMS, and Teams. The restrictions also extended to Visio Online, Project Online, and Power BI solutions due to tightening U.S. sanctions.
Microsoft Rus LLC, the company’s main Russian subsidiary, saw a 38.9% increase in net profit, reaching 174.1 million rubles in 2024 compared to 2023.
However, between January and February 2025, Microsoft’s Russian subsidiary faced at least four lawsuits totaling around 110 million rubles.
Microsoft stopped renewing product licenses for Russian companies on September 30, 2023, and in August 2023, it began notifying business customers in Russia about the suspension of corporate subscription renewals.
The company had previously announced in 2022 that it would significantly scale down its operations in Russia, with plans to eventually cease business entirely.
