The Russian assets of Danish insulation manufacturer Rockwool have been transferred to Russian-based companies, The Moscow Times reported on Jan. 13, citing decrees signed by Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.

The decrees transferred a 100% stake in Rockwool LLC and a 68% stake in Rockwool-Volga LLC, both of which are subsidiaries of the Danish group, to Rozvitok Stroitelnykh Aktivov JSC. The company was registered in Moscow in the fall of 2025.

Rockwool specializes in the production of thermal and sound insulation materials made from mineral wool and, according to Bloomberg, is the world’s largest manufacturer of insulation products based on this raw material. The company entered the Russian market in 1995, opening its first plant in Moscow Oblast in 1999. It later launched production facilities in Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast; Troitsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast; and the Alabuga Special Economic Zone in Yelabuga, Tatarstan.

Rockwool has previously faced criticism for continuing to operate in Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, unlike many other European companies that left the market. In response, Rockwool stated that a complete withdrawal from Russia would effectively result in the business being handed over to Putin.
