“Odesa was devastated today,” said Valerii Baranovskyi, director and co-founder of Berger Cargo. “It was a missile strike; two missiles hit.”
“Humanitarian shipments for the southern regions of Ukraine were processed at this warehouse,” Baranovskyi noted. “We did not store commercial cargo there.” The facility covers an area of 14,000 square meters.
Thick smoke was seen rising over the city following the strike, according to local outlet Suspilne Odesa. Regional news outlet Dumskaya Odesa also reported a massive fire and urged local residents to close their windows.
The Ukrainian Air Force had previously warned residents of an impending Russian airstrike targeting the city.
Russian forces have intensified strikes against Ukrainian logistics hubs, warehouses, and commercial businesses.
