In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States would impose a universal 10% tariff during the 90-day pause for countries that “did not respond to U.S. actions.” He added, “I hope that China will soon understand that the days when it could cheat the United States and other nations are over and will never again be tolerated.”
The president claimed that more than 75 countries had reached out to U.S. officials—including representatives from the Commerce Department, the Treasury Department, and the U.S. Trade Representative’s office—to discuss resolving issues related to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-tariff barriers.
CNN reported that it is unclear which countries will benefit from the pause. The network reached out to the White House for further clarification. On Twitter, the White House said the 90-day pause and the reduced 10% tariff apply to “other countries.”
