Ukraine's nuclear power plants, which remain the backbone of the country's energy mix, have increased electricity generation since the start of 2026.

Ukrainian nuclear power plants generated 26.82 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first half of 2026, state nuclear energy company Energoatom said.

The figure was 163.1 million kilowatt-hours higher than in the same period of 2025.

The increase in electricity generation was driven in part by effective maintenance planning, adherence to approved schedules and the early completion of planned work.

"This enables Energoatom to generate the maximum possible amount of electricity, meet and exceed production targets, and prepare power units in a timely manner for the next heating season," the company said.

Energoatom also stressed that Ukraine's nuclear power plants generate the largest share of electricity in the country's energy mix. According to data on electricity production and consumption from 2019 to 2025 published by the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission, nuclear power accounted for more than 67% of electricity generation during certain periods.

It was previously reported that the Cabinet of Ministers had completed the formation of Energoatom's supervisory board by appointing two independent members.
