Ukraine still experiencing 30% power deficit

The Ukrainian power grid is still lacking 30% of its generation capacity to satisfy demand, Ukraine’s grid operator Ukrenergo said in a Telegram post on Nov. 25.

The company said the work to recover after a country-wide blackout is ongoing; technicians are working around the clock to restore power supply to consumers across Ukraine.

“In order to keep the system balanced in these conditions, Ukrenergo instructed every region of the country to limit their electricity consumption accordingly,” the message said.

Regional energy enterprises then determine the pace and scope of power cuts that needed to comply with Ukrenergo’s quotas. As it stands, there is enough generation capacity to ensure every province and Kyiv have to deal with limited and controlled outages.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhnyi, Russia launched 67 cruise missiles on Nov. 23, targeting key nodes of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure; Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 51 of the incoming missiles.
