Ukraine to launch its own microchip production – Ministry of Digital Transformation

Deputy Minister Valeria Ionan shared the country’s ambitious vision for microchip production at Ukraine’s Global Innovation event on Nov. 14, NV Business reported.

“We will meet the needs of the domestic market and create a foundation for export,” Ionan said. She did not specify the exact start date for construction of the network.

She said Ukraine will create a network of fabless companies (companies without their own factory) for automated microchip design. This will enable Ukraine to enter and secure a position in the global semiconductor market.

Also at the event, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said that by 2024 the Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to develop and present a Ukrainian microchip.

He added that the ministry is collaborating with various companies in this direction, but other details are not being disclosed at this time.

It was previously reported that Fedorovcould be appointed as prime minister after the New Year.
