The Cabinet of Ministers has named the State Property Fund the manager of 1,592 rolling stock items that belonged to sanctioned Russian companies. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said the assets can now be formally seized and used to Ukraine’s benefit.
“The estimated value of the confiscated rolling stock is about UAH2.2 billion ($50 million),” the PM said.
“They are in working condition and can be used for freight transport until the end of their service life, including for defense needs.”
The railcars belonged to sanctioned Russian entities, including VEB-Leasing, VEB.RF, and Nord (subsidiary of Sberbank Leasing), as well as other Russian finance and logistics companies.
Svyrydenko said the cars were used for shipments across
Ukraine and European Union countries before Russia’s full-scale invasion in
2022. After the invasion, the cars remained in Ukraine and were seized. Last
year, the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) moved to seize them.
