Germany records largest contribution of over $240 million to Ukraine Energy Support Fund
Germany has contributed a total of EUR 225 million ($244.5 million) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, making it the largest contributor in the fund's history, Deputy Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said during a meeting with Germany’s Bundestag, reported the Ukrainian Energy Ministry on Jan. 22.
Germany has also dispatched 89 shipments of assistance to Ukraine's energy sector.
"Today, thanks to our foreign and international partners who have become sponsors of the Fund, the amount of commitments for grant contributions has already grown to over EUR 400 million ($434.8 million),” Hrynchuk said.
“We greatly appreciate that Germany's total contribution is the largest in the entire history of the Fund and is currently EUR 225 million ($244.6 million)."
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in the spring of 2022, offering an avenue for governments, international financial organizations, and private donors to provide substantial support to the Ukrainian energy sector.
A total of 132 agreements were concluded within the framework of the Fund from Jan. 1 to Nov. 27, 2023. These involved the purchase of energy equipment, fuel, and materials totaling nearly EUR 100 million ($108.7 million).
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Energy Community Secretariat also signed an agreement in November 2023 for a grant contribution from the United States to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, totaling $25 million.
