Germany to send decommissioned power equipment to Ukraine

Germany has prepared a shipment of equipment from
decommissioned thermal
power plants to help Ukraine repair the damage from Russian attacks, the Ukrainian
Energy Ministry said on March 11.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal discussed the deliveries with Bundestag President Julia Klöckner during her visit to Kyiv the same day. The equipment, some of which has already been dismantled and packaged for transport, is intended for repairs of power and heating infrastructure.
Shmyhal thanked Berlin for its ongoing support, including during the harsh winter 2025/26.
“Germany provided humanitarian aid totaling $15.9 million, and its contribution to the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund amounts to EUR552.4 million [$639 million]. We greatly appreciate this support,” he said.
Shmyhal said a key priority for Kyiv is securing the EUR90 billion ($104 billion) EU loan currently being held up by Hungary.
“We plan to use EUR5 billion of that for urgent energy needs in 2026,” said the minister.
“That is critically necessary to prepare for next winter. We
count on Germany’s support on this matter.”
