Kostyuk defeated at Melbourne Summer Set 2
U.S. tennis player Claire Liu eliminated Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk from the Melbourne, Australia leg of the Women's Tennis Association Tour on Jan. 6.
After Kostyuk won the first set, her opponent managed to rally and win the next two.
The first set saw Kostyuk beat out Liu with a score of 6:4, breaking two serves and losing only one serve of her own. Liu won the second set with the same score.
Kostyuk initially led in the deciding set with the score of 2:1, but managed to eke out only two games afterwards, while her opponent went on to win five.
The final score in the match was Claire Liu (the United States) - Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) 2:1 (4:6, 6:4, 6:3).
So far, three other Ukrainian competitors have been eliminated from the Melbourne tournament: Daria Snigur, Lesia Tsurenko and Anhelina Kalinina.
Earlier, Ukraine’s highest-ranked female tennis player, Elina Svitolina, lost to Russian Anastasia Gasanova at a tournament in Adelaide, Australia.
