S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 devs reveal what the game won't have on launch
The long-awaited Ukrainian-made survival horror shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is set to release on Nov. 20, but three major features will not be present at launch, developers GSC Game World told gaming and electronics website Wccftech on Aug. 31.
The first of the delayed features is a technical one – hardward ray tracing, which the developer told Wccftech will not be ready by release. However, software ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS technology will both be present at launch, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 producer Slava Lukyanenko said.
The other two features to be included in post-launch support for the game are cross-platform mod support and a multiplayer mode. While Game World did not name a specific date for those features, Lukyanenko stated that the team is pushing to get those features out as close to launch as possible.
"So, after the release, I can't say when exactly, but we want to do
it as close as possible to the release date, we will have the official
mod support," the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 producer told Wccftech.
"We are cooking up some new, interesting initiatives for next year. We are striving to support both PC and console."
Multiplayer was always planned as a post-release feature, however, GSC Game World affirmed, and those plans are still on track.
"It is supposed to be an update after the release," Zakhar Bocharov, a PR specialist as GSC Game World, said.
"But for now, we're making the single player as polished as possible. Everything connected to multiplayer probably belongs to our post-launch phase, so we just don't have an update on that right now."
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a sequel to the award-winning S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl video game, released in 2007 from Ukrainian studio GSC Game World. Players control an adventurer explore the supernatural Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and discover the secrets and horrors of the Zone along the way.
