Ukrainian high schools may introduce bilingual curricula – both in Ukrainian and English – Director General of the Directorate of Preschool, School, Out-of-School and Inclusive Education of Ukraine’s Education Ministry, Oleh Yaresko, told Ukrainian TV channel DOM on March 15.

Yaresko noted that in 2022, Ukraine presented a revamped national education program, which envisages the implementation of various reforms. Among them is the introduction of a bilingual education system.

"We have institutions where children who have the aptitude to learn foreign languages gather," noted Yaresko.

“They practice early language learning. We plan that in the future, high school subjects will be taught in two languages — Ukrainian and English.”

When asked why English was chosen as the second language, the official said that all the best educational resources in the world are in English, so it is worth taking advantage of that. However, it remains unknown when this change may ultimately be rolled out.
