The total length of the front line in Ukraine now exceeds 1,200 kilometers, Oleksiy Hromov, deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on July 5.
"As for the length of the so-called frontline of contact, it currently exceeds 1,200 kilometers," Hromov said in an interview with Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
"However, we are talking only about the direct line of contact with the enemy in Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv oblasts, where active hostilities are ongoing," he said.
Hromov added that Ukraine’s northern borders with Belarus and Russia should not be forgotten.
"From there, the enemy is conducting constant missile and artillery attacks, the activities of the enemy's sabotage and reconnaissance forces are noted, and the threat of military invasion remains; as well as on the section of the sea coast in Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts, where, despite the reduction of the enemy's naval potential, we cannot completely dismiss its landing capabilities."
Hromov added that Ukraine also has to consider its border with Transnistria, the Russian-occupied region of Moldova where Russia maintains a small troop contingent.
"Therefore, in total, the front line could reach about 3,800 kilometers," he said.
