Air Canada flight catches fire after hard landing in Halifax
A portion of an Air Canada flight 2259 plane caught fire on
the runway at Halifax Airport after landing issues, CBC
News reported on Dec. 29.
One passenger said one of the plane’s landing gear failed to
deploy properly during landing, causing the aircraft to tilt to the left.
“We heard a loud noise, similar to a thud, when the plane’s
wing began skidding along the tarmac, along with what I assume was the engine,”
she said.
The plane was then jolted violently. “We saw a fire on the
left side of the plane, and smoke started coming from the windows,” CBC News
quoted the passenger.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time (4:30
a.m. Dec. 29 Kyiv time) on Air Canada flight 2259, operated by PAL Airlines.
The aircraft had approximately 80 passengers on board, and there were no
reported injuries. The evacuation took only a few minutes.
“One side of the plane was engulfed in flames, so everyone
hurried to exit, but it was an organized rush,” said another passenger.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
