Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down the second
Russian Su-34 fighter jet in eastern Ukraine in one day, Air Force commander,
Mykola Oleshchuk, reported on Telegram
on Feb. 27, sharing a photo of
it at 4:10 p.m.
The second jet was downed around 2 p.m. EET, also in the east.
"With such losses of combat and special aviation, the Russians should consider, at least for a while, halting the ‘aviation meat grinder.’ Well, we continue to work on it," he wrote.
This news comes shortly after Oleshchuk’s morning report on the downing of a Russian Su-34 fighter jet in the eastern sector of the front.
“Seven combat aircraft — Russian ‘Su’ jets — were shot down in a week,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his nightly address on Feb. 21.
Russia has lost 339 aircraft since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian General Staff reported the same day.
On Feb. 24, the Ukrainian Armed Forces and HUR reported the downing of another of Russia’s prized A-50 AWACS aircraft and a Su-34 jet in a joint operation.
On Feb. 21, BBC reported that Russia had lost at least 216 military pilots since the beginning of its full-scale invasion, including at least 62 killed in action.
Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat revealed that on Feb. 17, fighter jets targeted Avdiivka’s airbase and other locations with guided bombs.
On Feb. 19, Ukrainian defenders successfully downed a Su-34 and a Su-35S on the eastern front. The pilot of the Russian Su-35 reportedly perished at sea, while the second aircraft crashed north of the occupied city of Mariupol.
