Ukraine needs radar-equipped anti-drone weapons to shoot down enemy drones effectively, spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat, said on Ukrainian national television on Oct. 23.
He noted that Iranian-made drones are relatively low-priced. Russians launch them mostly at night.
"We cannot see them physically,” he explained.
“Only radar can detect them. We need anti-drone guns with radars for drone tracking that can down Shahed-136s at night.”
Ignat added that these anti-drone weapons would lessen the burden on Ukrainian air defense as well, allowing Ukraine to conserve resources.
Ukrainian forces have already downed 273 Iranian Shahed-136 suicide drones since September, he noted.
Russia launched a drone attack against Ukraine on Oct. 23 overnight. Ukrainian air defenses downed 16 drones in the country’s south.
