Explosions and drones reported as Russia asks Belgorod residents to stay indoors — video

A missile threat is declared in the Russian city of Belgorod, the BelPlus Telegram channel reported in the early hours of Jan. 17. 

"WARNING! Belgorod city and Belgorod district. Missile danger. Stay home if possible. Do not approach the windows," BelPlus wrote at 01:30 a.m. EET.

A video of “bavovna” was posted later.

(Explosions in Russia or Russian-held territory far behind the frontlines are popularly referred to in Ukraine as “bavovna” (“cotton” in English), as the Russian word for a small explosion resembles the Ukrainian word for cotton.)

Russian air defense intercepted seven drones over Belgorod and the Belgorod Oblast, Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov claimed.

No casualties have been reported, though there is damage in a residential sector and a commercial building caught fire. A power outage was reported in one village.

Vilkha rockets and drones attacked objects on the territory of Russia, claimed the Russian Defense Ministry.

Seven rockets and four Ukrainianian drones were reportedly eliminated over Belgorod Oblast, Russia’s MoD alleged.

Ukrainian drones attacked Belgorod and Voronezh oblasts in Russia on Jan. 16. It was reported that the Shilovo military airport was targeted in this attack.
