Americans shift toward quick Ukraine war resolution

23 December 2024, 09:07 AM

Americans are almost evenly divided on whether the U.S. should continue to help Kyiv win back territory it lost in the protracted war with Russia (48%) or push for a quick peace, even if that means Ukraine does not regain all of the occupied territories (50%), according to the Gallup survey conducted between Dec. 4-15.

Support for a quick resolution has been steadily increasing since August 2022, when it stood at 33%.

In the previous five Gallup polls, a majority of American respondents favored fighting to victory.

Partisan preferences for U.S. involvement in the war remain sharply divided. Support for a quick end to the war among Republican respondents has increased 20 points to 74% in the latest poll, compared with just 30% among Democrats, who generally favor continuing support for Ukraine.
