Armenia no longer paying CSTO dues
Armenia has ceased its financial contributions to the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) military alliance, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan said on May 8.
In a comment to Factor.am, Badalyan said that Armenia would not provide financial contributions going forward but would not oppose passing a limited version of CSTO’s budget.
She added Armenia is currently not participating in CSTO's joint activities, such as military exercises, but has not yet withdrawn from the bloc.
On Nov. 14, 2023, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko invited Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan to a CSTO meeting, but he declined to participate.
Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan has stated that Armenia's presence in the CSTO, effectively led by Russia, poses "certain problems" for Yerevan, highlighting the importance of cooperating with Western partners on security matters.
The CSTO is an international military and political organization comprising Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
