The Austrian government will not extradite draft-age Ukrainian men who entered the country following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Austria’s Internal Ministry said on Sept. 7.

"We would never do that," Austrian news outlet Exxpress quotes a spokesman for the ministry.

"That would be a massive encroachment on our statehood, we would never do that. That would be an attempted intervention in our asylum system and in our statehood, Austria could not entertain that."

The report also notes there are currently about 14,000 military-age Ukrainian men living in Austria, out of a total of 101,629 Ukrainian war refugees in the country.
