Blackout schedules expected to ease as temperatures drop
As the lengthy heatwave finally recedes, the strain on Ukraine’s power grid is expected to decrease, State Energy Supervision Inspectorate head Ruslan Slobodyan said on July 18.
In a comment to Ukrainian TV broadcasters, Slobodyan confirmed that daily power outages are likely to become shorter in coming days.
“After the temperature regimes normalize—being above the norm currently—we expect a reduction in the scale of power cuts,” he said.
He reiterated that the primary cause of sustained electricity deficit lies with Russia’s air strikes disabling most of Ukraine’s flexible generation capacity.
Slobodyan once again urged consumers to use electricity as sparingly as possible.
National power grid operator Ukrenergo previously said that the generation deficit will improve in August after the country’s nuclear power plants restart after the annual refueling.
