Ukrainian border guards shot down a Russian ZALA Z-20 reconnaissance drone at a record altitude of 6,858 meters, the State Border Guard Service's Northern Border unit reported on Facebook on Aug. 2.
"As of today, this remains the highest confirmed interception altitude among all units operating in this area," the unit said in its statement.
The drone was shot down by operators of a STING FPV interceptor.
Border guards said Russian forces deliberately launch ZALA Z-20 reconnaissance drones at high altitudes, expecting them to remain out of reach of Ukrainian forces.
Overnight into Aug. 2 (starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 1), Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 133 Shahed-type attack drones, including jet-powered variants, along with Gerbera and Italmas drones, Banderol loitering munitions, and Parodiya decoy drones.
Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 109 enemy drones, Banderol loitering munitions, and other drone types in the north, south, and east of the country.
