Exotic wildlife Polish smuggler faces bribery probe
An attempt by a Polish citizen to smuggle lemurs and exotic birds was thwarted at the Hrushiv-Budomezh checkpoint, the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) reported on Telegram on Jan. 5, posting photos of the rare animals and birds discovered on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
The Mercedes van driver offered the border guard a bribe of $1,900 and 100 euros ($103) to allow him to cross the border with his exotic live cargo without the required documents.
This was refused and a report was sent to the National Police for further investigation of an offense under Art. 369 of the Criminal Code (offering or giving an unlawful benefit to an official).
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
