Bulgaria extends Ukrainain refugee support program
On Dec 28, the Bulgarian government has once again renewed its program of state benefits for Ukrainain refugees until the end of April 2024, reports The Sofia Globe.
Those hosting Ukrainian refugees will continue to receive about 8 dollars per person per day. In addition, the Bulgarian government instructed the ministers of labor and social policy and education to develop proposals for the integration of Ukrainians into the country's society within the next two months.
The state support scheme for refugees from Ukraine, introduced in 2022, included the provision of financial support for places of residence of refugees. Despite the reduction in the scale of support by President Rumen Radev, it was repeatedly extended.
According to the country's government, 1,410,258 Ukrainians have entered Bulgaria since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In total, 82,473 Ukrainians remain in Bulgaria, 16,804 of whom are accommodated under the humanitarian accommodation program.
