Ottawa will allocate $500 million to purchase U.S.-made weapons for Ukraine, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Telegram on Aug. 25, following a meeting with his Canadian counterpart David McGuinty.
During the Aug. 24 meeting, the ministers discussed expanding industrial cooperation, particularly Canadian investments in joint drone production.
Shmyhal also expressed gratitude to Canada for its consistent support, saying that it "strengthens Ukraine and our defenders."
On Aug. 24, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made his first visit to Ukraine to join celebrations marking the country’s Independence Day.
Ukraine is marking the 34th anniversary of its 1991 declaration of independence from the Soviet Union. This is the fourth Independence Day celebrated during Russia’s full-scale war and the 12th since Moscow’s 2014 invasion of Crimea and the Donbas.

If conscious disinformation is reinforced by state propaganda apparatus and budget, its outcomes may become deadly.
There is no solution to this, other than independent, honest, and accurate reporting.
