Canada slaps new sanctions on Belarusian officials, firms over war in Ukraine

Canadian authorities have announced that they plan to impose additional sanctions against Belarusian officials, the Reuters news agency reported on Nov. 22.
These sanctions would apply to 22 Belarusian officials, as well as 16 Belarusian companies engaged in:
- military manufacturing,
- technology,
- engineering,
- banking,
- railway transportation.
According to the Foreign Ministry, these officials include those "complicit in the stationing and transport of Russian military personnel and equipment involved in the invasion of Ukraine".
Earlier, Russia imposed sanctions against 100 Canadian citizens. Among them are the grandson of Ukrainian historical figure Stepan Bandera, and comedian Jim Carrey.
