Russian missile attack on Kyiv destroys three transformer substations
Three transformer substations were completely destroyed or damaged in the deadly Russian missile attack on Kyiv, Ukraine's largest private energy operator DTEK reported on Telegram on July 8, posting photos of the aftermath.
"Three DTEK transformer substations were destroyed or damaged in the Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts,” the statement said.
“Power grids were also damaged. Power engineers are on the scene. Most houses will soon be powered from backup sources."
This follows an earlier report same day by the Prosecutor General’s Office of widespread damage and destruction in seven districts of the Ukrainian capital. At least 16 people were killed and 37 others injured in the Russian missile attack on the morning of July 8.
The Russian strike killed at least 10 civilians and injured 31 in the city of Kryvyi Rih.
Another three people were killed in the missile attack that targeted an enterprise in the city of Pokrovsk in Ukraine's frontline Donetsk Oblast.
Earlier in the day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more than 40 missiles of various types had been fired by Russia in the massive morning attack on the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk.
"And the whole world must use all its determination to finally put an end to the Russian strikes,” he said. “Killing is what Putin is all about. Only together can we bring real peace and security."
The missiles were launched by Russian Tu-95, Tu-22, and MiG-31K aircraft, while ballistic missiles were fired from the temporarily occupied Crimea.
